EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2009, THE CITY OF YORK FIRE DISTRICT WILL HAVE AN ISO RATING OF 4 DISTRICT WIDE. THIS MEANS THAT ANYONE THAT LIVES WITHIN FIVE MILES OF THE FIRE STATION IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE 4 RATING. PREVIOUSLY, THE CITY OF YORK FIRE DISTRICT HAD A SPLIT RATING OF A 4/6. AREAS THAT HAD THE 6 RATING, MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A RATE REDUCTION IN  HOME OWNER'S INSURANCE PREMIUMS BEGINNING JULY 1ST. CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE PROVIDER FOR MORE INFORMATION.

The York Fire Department is made up of 9 full time employees and 20 active volunteer firefighters. The department responds out of one station located on North Roosevelt Street. Out of this station we cover 64.5 square miles which includes the city limits of York and 5 miles outside of the city limits. The York fire Department is under contract with York County for fire protection services in the unincorporated area. In fiscal year 2006 the fire department responded to 454 fire calls for service and 504 first responder calls. Also, for the first seven months of 2007 the fire department responded to 274 calls for fire service and 334 first responder calls.
