Phase II of the South Congress Streetscape Project provides a significant enhancement to the downtown area. This $273,000 project is funded primarily through a grant from the South Carolina Department of Transportation and will provide brick pavers, lighting, landscaping, and other enhancements along South Congress Street in front of the York County Courthouse and the Rose Hotel.
The timing of this project is excellent, in that it will promote the city experiencing a revitalization of the downtown area unparalleled in recent history. The success associated with the redevelopment and promotion of the downtown area is the result of a partnership of the Downtown Business Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and the City of York. The streetscape design was approved by City Council only after numerous public meetings and input from the Downtown Business Association, Chamber of Commerce, York County, and the community.
